Recently we have heard about a spike in residential theft. This is typical for this time of the year. The usual items taken are power tools, materials and appliances.
Studies have shown that 68% of all builders will experience theft or vandalism and 66% will experience theft more than once.
We highly recommend to take tools home when possible and do not have valuable appliances delivered to site until you are ready for them. Two of the most effective methods to deter crime is to create light, noise or have quality alarmed cameras installed.

What are the chances that you will have a theft at your building site? Take our test to see if your security setup would deter theft:
When possible, do you get to know the immediate neighbors to the building site and ask if they can report any suspicious behavior?
If you use temporary fencing for building sites, do you prominently display builder details or after-hour contacts?
If street lighting is not available, or not yet activated, do you place some sort of temporary lighting illuminating the front and footbath areas of the building site?
Do you usually have an on-site container or compound for secure storage of tools and materials? Or, do you instead take your tools home with you?
